Reseña

In recent decades, biodiversity has won a growing recognition, not only as an expression of the different forms of life present on the planet but also as the foundation of the well-being and quality of life of human beings. In this latter respect, society has come to better understand the direct relationship between biodiversity and human health and development, as well as human security and culture (UNEP 2007). These benefits which derive from biodiversity are known as ecosystemic services. The provision and maintenance of these services are indispensable to the survival of human life on the planet, something which is only possible if the structure and functioning of biodiversity are guaranteed (MEA 2005). Using this technical instrumentation, we present a Policy document which, in its different sections, deals with the subjects which are needed to place the objective and strategic framework in context and make them meaningful, in a manner that will enable the country to conserve its biodiversity, face up to manmade environmental change and maintain the resilience of its socio-ecological systems and thus help to improve the well-being and quality of life of Colombians.
