Autores: | Chaverra Rivas, Ana Julia Palacios Córdoba, Arleyda |
This is a collection of hair narratives grew out of a research project labeled Afro Hair: Decolonizing beauty by going natural. The purpose was to document the factors affecting the way afrocolombian students wear their hair on the campus of Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó Diego Luis Córdoba – UTCH in Quibdó, Colombia. UTCH is one of two predominantly Black state institutions in Colombia. The stories reflect how afrocolombian students felt about the stringent social norms that defined straight hair as beautiful. These stories fully reflect anger, hurtful and glory days concerning the perception of their hairstyles. This book invites you to celebrate black natural hair, tips and care to redefine the significance of hair among the African diasporas. The work also contains methodological strategies for the English Foreign Language classroom, such as open discussion, debates, roleplays and writing activities about hairstyles, self-love, and creative expressions. Overall, this book is a call for shaping mental freedom of both knowledge and practices about afro hair aesthetics.
