The United Nations Educational, Scientific  and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO),  in  accordance with its policy to identify and protect those natural and cultural assets  of exceptional value for the entire world, extended its interest to those manifestations that constitute the intangible cultural legacy. The Colombian natural and cultural heritage is as diverse as the country´s geography and history. The entire set of material and intangible assets associated  with Colombian identity comprises  the  nation´s   cultural heritage. Everyday, artistic and historical objects, buildings, streets, plazas and urban centres, and even landscapes form part of the legacy that nature and our ancestors have bequeathed to us, a legacy whose meanings and values we must preserve for future generations.
