During the years 1995 and 2006, violence intensified in Cesar, where, in addition to the presence of illegal groups such as the FARC and ELN guerrillas, the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) emerged to confront their actions. Their territorial disputes resulted in deaths and much suffering.
Amidst the armed conflict that escalated into a cruel war, regional journalists were present. In addition to reporting the harshest aspects of the violence, they were also victims of kidnappings, threats, murders, and accusations that forced them to self-censor and violate press freedom.
In this book, "In the Sights of the Conflict," 22 media workers, journalists, cameramen, and photojournalists who covered public order in Cesar and southern La Guajira recount the chilling experiences they endured, which not only remain unknown to younger generations but have even been forgotten by them. This work by journalist YANITZA FONTALVO DIAZ also highlights the courage of the Valledupar communicators who became martyrs after exercising their dangerous profession.
